I have no idea if these stories are true. However, I believe the statements are very valid.

When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?' A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from! their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?' Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, 'Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, ''The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !" The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."

It seems rather ironic to mee it is the God fearing people who are willing to fight for peace.

Relay for Life

A couple of months ago I was invited to participate in the Relay of Life with the "Dangerous Curves" group here in Mt. Home. A couple of adorable women, Lisa and Janeen, own the Curves location where I workout. They have invited mee to do a couple of things with them, and I have looked forward to getting to know them better and participating in a community event. During the meeting we had on Tuesday I found out my allotted time to walk would be from 1am-2am, and that I could bring someone else with mee. I decided to invite Rebecca, my oldest niece, to join mee. She was brought to Mt. Home by Roger, Melva, and Lori who also invited us to join them at a movie on base. We got to the theater just in time to watch Narnia, Prince Caspian. The movie started with the singing of The Star Spangled Banner. I am use to sporting events beginning in such a manner. I liked having a movie start with a reminder of our freedoms and sacrifices are made to maintain them. It was a good movie. Becca was glad to have seen it. It was also nice to do something with the family I do have in town. It was over by 9:30pm giving us plenty of time to get back to Mt. Home and gather the things needed to stay at the park for the night. "What is Relay For Life? Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length. After laying out our tarp and things we decided to walk around to see what everyone had out. Many of the groups were selling food items, or other things at surprisingly reasonable prices. Becca even got her face painted. We were fairly awake while our time on the track began. Becca did some running. We had a good talk. We talked about different things that cause cancer and different people I know/knew that have or had cancer. Becca said she thought walking to fight cancer was a great idea because she thinks exercising would help fight cancer. The Elmore County Relay for life was about 12 hours long. Closing Ceremony and final lap were at 7:30am.
